Viral Marketing At Its Best

by Yan

What better way to usher in the weekend by sharing with you one of the best video of viral marketing at work that will put a smile on your face.

What is Viral Marketing?

According to Wikipedia, viral marketing is a marketing phenomenon that facilitates and encourages people to pass along a marketing message voluntarily. It is claimed that a satisfied customer tells an average of three people about a product or service he/she likes, and eleven people about a product or service which he/she did not like.

Viral marketing is based on this natural human behavior. If the term is too foreign to you, wait till you see this.

Here’s an interesting viral video of Matt Harding who traveled and danced through 39 countries on all 7 continents and is quasi-famous as “That guy who dances on the internet”. It’s actually the only dance Matt know best.

Where the hell is Matt?

Who does it better than Matt? If you think this is not viral marketing at its best, convince me otherwise. What do you think?

[Thanks, Sly]

Wow crazy!

That would cost a heck of a lot of money in transportation, accomodations, food, etc. I wonder what his ROI would be? I can’t see it being very high lol. Then again, maybe over the long haul…

Matt knows his dance or got used to it as it seems from the video, a classical example for the saying ‘repetition makes it perfect’. Look at the crowds of people he had or has on his side, they danced his dance, he must be a very friendly guy. Great.

The story goes like this, Matt quit his job and traveled around Asia till the money went dry. He made some a video documenting his journey and somehow got famous because of his “chicken dance”. So some nice people from Stride Gum offered to sponsor him to do another video and he accepted it. Who would say ‘No’ to all-paid expenses to travel around the world? So that’s how that video was born.

I don’t think he is in it for money but somehow he got himself famous; thanks to the internet.

@Hander: Friendly? You bet he is. Actually that’s the only dance he does best.

Oh ya, thanks for dropping by, Hander.

Viral marketing depends on a high pass-along rate from person to person. If a large percentage of recipients forward something to a large number of friends, the overall growth snowballs very quickly. If the pass-along numbers get too low, the overall growth quickly fizzles.
