Readers Appreciation No.1

by Yan

Sire from WhatsupBlog once said in response to his reader’s comment.

“I look at my blogs as being like virtual homes, and those who comment are like visitors whom I have invited into my home. Now if they do all the right things, it would be rude not to return the favor.”

Not too long ago Sire started a movement called “You Comment And I Will Comment On Your Blog” which is indeed an obvious point but an overlooked one. It’s the least any blogger could should do, more importantly if you are a new kid on the blogsophere.

No one will deny that when the momentum is picking up in much the same way “no nofollow” is, it wouldn’t be too long to see the whole blogosphere becoming a much better place for you and me.

The Value of Reciprocity

Your readers are the very reason why your blog exists in the first place. They are the life blood of your blog. Showing appreciation goes beyond merely responding to their comments. You should take one step further by reciprocating the same by visiting their blogs and join the conversation as best you can.

It’s the practice I’m strongly advocating and I attribute this to the success of this blog. Isn’t such reciprocity the basis of building social relationship with fellow bloggers?

Top Commentator of The Month

The Top Commentator of The Month of August goes to Peter from Work At Home Ideas who has never failed to join in every discussion on this blog and contributed his knowledge and thoughts with us, despite the fact that most, if not all of his comments are akismeted into my spam folder. Peter, please contact me to claim your reward.

In case if you aren’t in the know, the Top Commentator will be rewarded with a free 125×125 ads for a period of one month and it will be on-going till further notice.

Link Love of The Month

No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.

Calvin Coolidge

Now what do the rest of the Top Commentators get as a reward? You’ll get a link love from yours truly as a gesture of my appreciation to you. In the spirit of giving back, I’m also not forgetting those who has given me a plug and linked to my article on their post, so here I am reciprocating the same with great honor.

@Work At Home Ideas – Good for you, Peter. The last thing you need to do is to do away with the image widget on every post and I’m pretty sure it will speed up the loading even faster…

Hi Yan,
I know that removing widgets on every page would surely speed up my blog. But wouldn’t you think if you put a widget on your homepage you would want it shown on your other pages as well? Unless you know for sure that most of your visitors land on your home page first. Otherwise visitors arriving at your inside pages first may not necessary go to the homepage and thus missed the widget. Am I missing something.

@Work At Home Ideas – I’m actually referring the image widgets on your post. It’s better to use a static image with an optimized ‘alt’ tag for better SE rankings. Don’t take for granted Google image search…you’ll surprised that traffic do come from it.

Check you stats once you optimize the image ‘alt’ tag and you’ll know what I mean..

@jackie sheeler – Hi Jackie, I hope that if I ever get that big I won’t forget my roots and that I will still try to reciprocate at least a portion of my comments.

I noticed that on some of the so called ‘power blogger’ blogs that the blogger hardly even responds to the comments on their own blogs let alone bother reciprocating.

Totally agree with you. Reciprocation is so essential especially for us bloggers. I can say I have made some very good friends just because we began by posting and exchanging comments.
