Link Building Campaign with Article Marketing

by Yan

As part of my link building campaign, I’ve been writing articles across the internet applying one of the 7 habits of highly effective one-way link building.

Article Marketing

aka Bum Marketing, it is a wonderful, timeless strategy, and F-R-E-E way to promote your site and affiliate products.

Writing articles remains one of the best ways to drive targeted traffic to your site, and increase more sales.

Not only that, articles can also create powerful back links.

I’ve been using several article directories and Ezine Articles proves to the most effective in terms of ROI and search rankings since Google loves it. Google trust it.

And most importantly, it’s F-R-E-E

In general, article marketing serves two purposes

  1. To take advantage of the authority sites to rank highly for keywords and bring traffic through search engines and through people searching on the article directory.
  2. To build back links to your sites as most article directories are dofollow. The links from Ezine Articles are considered to be trustworthy in the eyes of search engines.

While many still struggle to get their feet wet in article marketing,

those who read One Week Marketing has been successfully using it to promote their affiliate products and bring in more sales day after day.

Want to know how?

100 hubs in 30 days

Applying the same techniques within, I’m crazy enough to take a hub challenge of building 100 hubs in 30 days with the aim of experimenting the feasibility of making money using hubpages.

hubpages.

Over the course of 24 hours, I’ve created several hubs to challenge myself and build a portfolio of hubs (hopefully 100 in 30 days) for me to drop links later.

Here’s a list of hubs I’ve made so far

If you are still sitting on the fence, read One Week Marketing and join the fun here. It could probably be one of the best decision you’ll ever make.

See ya on the other side!

It’s one of the best action plans if you ask me. It will surely cut your learning curve considerably.

Hello Yan!
You are way ahead of me, I have never done a Hub Page. I had to go look at yours just so I knew what you where talking about. They seem kinda like a Squidoo but, not so broken up (I am not a fan of Squidoo pages).

I hope you get your hundred! Brian and I are counting on you since, neither of us can. LOL!

Thanks, Sheryl. Oh yeah, I’m not fan of Squidoo. I created a few lens but it just didn’t click with me. Besides, it’s easier to create a hub than a lens for that matter.

And with all due respect to Seth, I’m a hub fan. The only drawback is that you need to earn a certain score (75 and above) before all your links are dofollow so I’m counting the score right now.

Thanks for dropping by, Sheryl. Wish me luck!

Yes, it is. I’m just using the same techniques on hubpages. It isn’t about the platform. It’s how you leverage on them to either drive traffic or sell affiliate products. I just find it easier to create a hub than a lens.

You deserve it.
Now all you need is to get them to score higher.
As well as building 100 of them…… :)

Yan, a question about your hubs. Are you just targeting a lot of niches or do you have a plan for them? I would have thought that you would have gone for just one or two different niches.

As for article marketing I’m all with you. Definitely a great way to increase traffic from both the directory itself and from the extra search engine traffic you get when your rankings improve.

Good question, Mikael. Initially I planned to use Squidoo as a platform to build backlinks for niche sites but somehow I found it much easier to create a hub than a lens (and in less time). I’m pretty impressed with the ease you can create a hub.

Anyway I’m still experimenting the feasibility of using a hub to target micro niches than to build a brand new site. Though we split the income 60/40, I’m cool with it. If it’s worth the split, I could use to drop my links… ;)

how many articles you have to publish on article directories to see a obvious traffic?

Good question. Here the thing. If you target the right keyword, and your article rank well on Google, one article is enough to bring the traffic to your site.

Forget about what others say about dupe contents. Use the same article and submit it to a few other article directories (goarticles, buzzle, article dashboard, just to name a few), probably each with its own unique titles.

Essentially, what you are doing is to build enough links and as time goes by, you will naturally rank higher on the search results.

Mikael @ RetireRichRoadmap May 21, 2009 at 7:28 pm

I find Buzzle to be pretty strict about what they accept. Have you ever had articles that you had already submitted to other directories be accepted with Buzzle?

Hey Yan! Yet another great article from you! I’m currently in the process of submitting my articles to article directories to build backlinks. I’m curious about what you mentioned here with regards to ignoring the dup content issue. I’ve read a lot of differing opinions on whether it will affect the search engine rank but I haven’t gotten a conclusive statement on it yet. Can you share more on your take on the topic?

Yan May 28, 2009 at 1:54 pm

Sorry for the late reply, Celes. I missed your comment.

As long as you’re not using dupe content within the same domain, they are fine. There is no such thing as dupe content penalty – they just don’t rank higher than the original source.

Google knows which one is unique and which ones are not but in most cases, they will index all of them – they have to. The question is which one ranks higher than the other.

Also, links are still links, whether they are in the #10 or bottom #200. It doesn’t matter. The more links pointing to your site using proper “keyword anchored text”, the higher you’ll rank in search results.

Of course, if you can write unique article for each submission targeting different keywords, though time-consuming, that’s be ideal.

Hope it helps and good to see ya here, Celes. Hope all is well with you.

In general, both are the same. eHow is geared towards “how-to” articles while hubpages is pretty much an article directory.

What separates the two is that the latter gives you more freedom to include you links pointing to your sites. Search engines trust inbound links from authority sites like hubpages, squidoo, ezine, etc.

Anyway, good to see ya on hubpages. Look forward to reading your first hub.

I have made several Hubpages. Like several other people have said, 100 hubpages in 30 days is a challenge. I am not sure I could do that. Good luck with your challenge.

Have you tried Squidoo? I prefer them to Hubpages because they allow more business friendly information. For example, they allow you to add affiliate links. I would love to hear which of the two services you prefer and why.

Reply

Yan May 21, 2009 at 7:40 pm

Hey Bruce,

Basically, they are both the same. The only significant difference between the two (apart from confusing options often associated with creating a lens) is, in my own personal observation, the community.

Hubpages isn’t so much for internet marketers and for this reasons alone, they do click on your ads while those who create lens out of selfish intention don’t even look at your lens, let alone buy from you.

I could be wrong but 4 of my lens earned a shocking $0.08 for a period of 2 months while I’ve already made close to $30 since I created my first hub a week ago. Not too bad, eh?

And yes, HubPages do allow you to add affiliate links.

Link building is very essential for your site because the backlinks would really give your site a very high traffic if you could setup as much links as you can. The more backlinks for your site, the better! It is because search engines are using backlinks to indicate how well is the traffic of your site and thus to know how popular is your link base on link popularity.

With article writing, comes the worrying. After a couple of articles you will start to feel that you are overusing certain phrases or have said the same word a lot of times. Mainly ignore this feeling, it is merely psychological. It might be best just to check every now and then that the phrases aren’t unduly repeated, but remember that reader’s want to extract information not faults in your article!
