Let’s Make Money Online in 2010

by Yan

Regardless of where you are, the economy is in a mess but that isn’t news to anyone. Especially to those that have lost their jobs or businesses because of it. Even those that have been lucky enough to keep their jobs are concerned about how much longer that is going to last.

Well, you can either choose to wallow in it and continue to ponder the future that seems to be bleaker than usual or you could rise to the occasion and start taking action.

Life is all about choices. It’s hard if you live it the easy way and easy if you live it the hard way.

In today’s recessionary economy, it has becoming the newest national past time to find ways to make money online.

People are being bombarded on a daily basis with online money making opportunities. They are everywhere out there but going through them and deciphering which one is best for you and your particular skill and interest can be overwhelming.

It can’t be denied that there are plenty of money making opportunities online and blogging is -  has always been and will always be – the primary choice of wanna-be internet entrepreneurs. After all, it’s the easiest vehicle to make money with little or no capital investment.

In fact, it’s the perfect platform to make money and bring foods to the table. It’s no surprise that people of all ages, the young, the retiree, stay-at-home mums all flock into the blogging bandwagon.

but that’s only one part of the story

Thing is, blogging for money can be extremely confusing. There are so many different ways it can be done. And before you can even get started, you have to know what blogging is, how and where to do it.

Once you have educated yourself on blogging and know that a blog is a weblog or online journal. There are a variety of platforms like HubPages, Blogger.com, WordPress.com where you can start a blog for free and you are on your way.

The next thing is to decide what to write about. What you choose to write can either make or break it.

If you choose a niche that only you and a small number of people are interested in, it will be very difficult for you to make any money out of it. Likewise, the more interest that you can generate in your topic, the more likely you are to be able to generate profits from it.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that you want to pick a topic that not only appeal to a majority of people but is also unique enough that everyone in the world isn’t already doing it.

For a start, choose a niche that you are passionate in and knowledgeable about. It’s the key ingredient of keeping you motivated and stay longer in the business.

When all is done, the question is how do you make money from my blog?

Here’s the truth!

I’m sure by now you know that if you are going to talk about how cute your cat is or what you had for dinner, you might as well get a job at McDonald for its measly pay.

My point is tad simple. No one really cares about your cat or your sponsored dinner for that matter.

If you want to make money from your blog, you need to have readers who care about what you write. Yes, you certainly require sustainable traffic and more importantly, the know-how to turn that traffic into customers (which is of course beyond the scope of this article – I suggest you take a look at the Keyword Academy).

In simple term, money is the by-product how you use your blog to generate interest and put your readers into pre-sale mode.

For starters, when you carry and market someone else’s products on your blog, this process is what we call, affiliate marketing. For each sale generated from your blog, you’ll get paid commissions in a varying degree of percentage depending on the products.

I recommend searching for the hottest and newest products in Clickbank, Amazon or Commission Junction. Of course, there are tons of affiliate products on the net. All you need is to find one that suits your niche.

And once you get into the groove of blogging and realize your own potential, doing freelance job can be another profitable, quicker way to make money online.

For instance, if you have a knack for writing, you could easily get writing gigs at elance.com and scriptlance.com. The truth is there are scores of people who are in need of writers to do everything from writing articles to ghostwriting books.

Or you can write for Associated Content or eHow and earn upfront payment for the articles you submit as well as royalties each month based on the number of times your articles have been viewed.

The options above are not meant to be-all-end-all of how to make money online. I’m merely presenting you with several opportunities you can grab right out of the gate.

The internet opens up a whole world of opportunities for those looking to make money online. It’s just that finding the right one for you is the most difficult part of the equation.

The important thing to remember is not to judge what you can or cannot do. As the journey of a thousand mile begins with the first step, never let the fear of failure leads you to inaction.

So don’t belittle yourself. YOU CAN DO IT! In fact, come rain and shine, anyone with a computer and an internet connection can do it.

Now, go grab your piece of the pie and rise to the occasion.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a meaningful 2010 ahead.

That is true with blogging skills, you will extend your skill into varirous Internet Marketing mainstream income, starting from monetizing your own blog, up to PPC and many ways. The global crisis is true becomes hurdles for everyone, but last night I chat with my IM buddies in Bangkok, and still says he is improving his income having almost 200 domains in wordpress blog, got slapped by Google, yet he survive to restructue his IM business.Just keep it up, as for myself my blog is 1 year old, from zero comments, and no income now it has make me fix income per month though still far from target.

Thanks for the tips Yan. I’ll make sure to pass these on to clients I work with who are brand new to the scene of “making money online”.

One additional way I’ve seen people make “quick cash” (if there is such a thing) in terms of blogging is writing about niche and local topics and then targeting brick and mortar businesses for “sponsored reviews” or ad sales.

If you’re new at blogging, you may not be able to ask for a lot up front. But blog consistently and things start picking up. 10 advertisers at 20 bucks a month isn’t bad for a newbie blogger.

Talk soon!

Good tips, Nate. I’ve seen how people ‘monetize’ and ‘profit’ from the Tiger Wood Scandal not too long ago. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Yan! it’s nice to know that you are back.. well at least, i thought you’re on hiatus the last time i paid a visit here :)

thanks for these reminders. those online opportunities have been around us but at some point in time, we tend to forget some due to overflowing information from the Internet.

Howdy, Yan!

Thanks a bunch for the amazing links you provided above. I am about to try elance.com. The last time I read your post on Hubpages, I decided to give it a try right away. And yeah, I kind of did. I posted my first hub days ago and am still looking for a topic to write about for my next hub.

I can relate to Dimaks’ remark about overflowing information. It’s absolutely true. My headache relapses as I am scouring the web, trying to find out some promising online income sources. The options are tremendously myriad! And I just need some pros’ advice on avoiding scams. You know how fragile inexperienced novices like me can be in the unforgiving jungle called ‘making money online’.

If only coming up with the content was as simple as guidelines and advice you shared, I would be well on my way. The deal is there are so many “life lessons” sites out there, I have to come up with a clever way to make my nuggets stand out.

Thanks for the info, it will be useful when I peg the other part. ;-)

You have a point, Kissie. We live to learn so we make the best of what we learn from the point we decide to start with an action which you have already started by the fact that you have own blog now.

Good luck with everything!

One of the big problems is that the most popular money making programs are written by people that forgot what it’s like to be new. These guys seem to think that building web pages, using FTP programs, and creating PDFs is common knowledge. The thing is most of us just don’t have the experience and knowledge that these guys take for granted that we should. It almost seems that they are cursed by that knowledge and cannot effectively communicate with someone brand new to the whole Internet Marketing thing. You won’t be quitting your day job right away but it will definitely help to get you started in making money online.

Making money through internet marketing is not that easy, Blogging is one of the best way to earn as long as you have passion in writing and you monetize your blog that well.

As long as you’re going to depend on fiat money, you’ll be affected by the recession. But great point about blogs talking about cats and the likes. People look for information online because they want to look for solutions to their problems.

I laughed at the statement about blogging about one’s cat and wondering why you’re not making money. Sounds like something a friend of mine would come up with.

Anyway, thanks for a great post. I plan to come back and read it again later this evening.

Blog posts don’t always have to be about writing an article. They can be reblogs (Zemanta has a great gadget that allows you to take parts of other blogs and post them, with a link, on your blog as a recommendation) videos, podcasts, lists, even(like your white bean soup) a great recipe you want to share. Your use of Google Wave to post collaborative thoughts on a subject, has been very inspirational!

Its what you are knowledgeable about and what you are good at, that determines how good your blog presents itself. You cannot be a jack-of-all-trades in blogging, you need to specialize.

2010 will give boost to the internet world of marketing. Making money online is really simple. You don’t need any knowledge to start earning cash. There is a lot of ways to earn money, but remember that it IS possible to make money online.

Thanks for your advice. For many, blogging is simply addictive. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and most people love to share theirs. So, what’s better than sharing your opinion with the world through blogging? Paid blogging.

I think the problem that most people face is that they expect to make a ton of money right away. When starting an internet income it is best to be patient and don’t give up. There is so much to learn when it comes to internet marketing and it can be frustrating.

We may be deep into Recession but some of us have ideas that can get us out of the mire. Yours is one of them.

From what I see, I think people who wants to make money online today want an instant result….and that’s stupid. I mean, if you want to make money, you have hard on it. Don’t expect a quick and tons of cash if you only start for a few weeks, from scratch.

I like you writing style – very much to the point. It’s so true that nobody really cares about your cat, or dog or grandma (unless she’s an online millionaire and teaching us how to become one). Keep up the great work.

Sharing your love and passion of something on a website should be your very first choice in my opinion.

This way the “work” it takes to build your site doesn’t seem much like work at all, got to love that!

Making money online is the hippest way to make money. A lot of people prefer home based jobs now a days. But just like any other kind ways to make money, you have to earn and work hard for it before you c an have the money you’ve been looking for.
