How to Get More Subscribers?

by Yan

Do you have a new blog? Do you wish to attract more subscribers?

Well, today Ali Hussain, a 17 years old blogger will provide some tips on how to get more subscribers for your blog.

Display Feed

One mistake that some blogs make is have their RSS feed link appearing too far down in the footer of the design. This is wrong – if you want to attract subscribers – just put up the FeedCount as well as the subscribe box on the top of your sidebar to attract more people.

Use Multiple Methods to Promote Your Feed

Try different methods to attract users. By this I mean is try adding more options for your readers like “Subscribe to My Feeds” in the end of each post, a Subscribe page may be. Try experimenting.

Tell Them Why They Should Subscribe

You can see a “Why Subscribe” in my sidebar, yes you too should place text like this in order to make your readers aware what benefits would they receive after subscribing to the blog.

Offer RSS to Email Services

Many readers forget to add your RSS feeds to their readers, or simply don’t get the time to frequently visit their RSS Readers. Ask them to subscribe to your Feed Email service i.e. when you make a new blog post they are alerted via email. Use services like Feedburner and Feeblitz.

Give Your Feed Readers a Bonus

HHost contest or give them freebies just to subscribe to your blog. I recently ran a contest on Techuse. So give your readers a tempting offer to subscribe.

Reveal The Truth

Readers like to know the truth about you and the blog, so post real facts. By this I mean to say that you make sure that you tell the ture details about your identity and make sure you post the true and valid stats to your blog. This will make the readers trust you and hence subscribe to your blog.

Plugins

Use plugins like GreetBox and SubscribeRemind to make people aware that you have an active RSS Feed and ask them to subscribe to your blog, if they liked your posts.

What about displaying feedburner numbers? Lets say I have 1 subscriber showing on the counter, would people want to subscribe?

I would go as far as saying that it depends highly on what your niche is. For some niches… it really doesn’t matter if you tell the people your subscribers number, while for other niches, the # of subscribers is a very important and influential reason why some people would want to sign up for your feed as well. Thats my take on it….

I’m a little wary of putting the subscriber count on my site as well, mostly because of its instability. A blogger with thousands of subscribers could wake up one morning and realize his count has been displaying far fewer for days at a time, which isn’t comforting to say the least. But I do agree with making the subscription options prominent, instead of just at the bottom of the site, and having something that tells people what RSS is and why they should subscribe. Great tips!

In my opinion, displaying your FEED Subscriber numbers enticed other visitors to subscribe also to your blog.

When you have many subscribers and your visitors/audience see those numbers displayed, they might think that “Uh, this blog has decent number of subscribers, maybe this blog offers something that are worth reading or subscribing too.” Thus making them to follow along those numbers.

Contests can also increase your subscriber’s number.

Which is often so. Most blogs with thousands of subscribers do have something valuable that they share (at least in the opinion og the subscribers).

On the other hand I am not a big fan of showing the count if the figure is very low. I think it will keep some people from subscribing.

Hi

I think that it is really important to have the option to subscribe by e-mail. Personally this is the way that I like to receive updates.

The best/easiest way is to use the code from Feedburner to display an email entry and “Subscribe” button.

I find that one of the things that makes me subscribe to a blog, is when it offers a contest where RSS subscription is a way to participate. I also subscribe if the blog updates often, and I enjoy the content.

Yes, that is true, just don’t display it until you get, let say hundreds of subscribers. Just like don’t allow comments when you are still starting a brand new blog (I think).

I recently came across to a site where the blog owner required me subscribe the email list to read a post which was password protected and has a great title, I did so.
I think this method can be used to increase the subscriber, but for this one, you should have a really great article otherwise it might have counter effect.

The general rule in displaying the RSS feed is to don’t display it until you got atleast a hundred subscriber. If you are going to display it when you still got a lower number then it would show that your site is not trustable. People like to follow other people.
