How to Earn Money At Home with HubPages?

by Yan

There are ways to earn money online at home. Way too many, in fact.

But if  you’re new to the game and you find it hard to decide which one works and which don’t, here’s the truth

I couldn’t possibly stress this enough.

Blogging about blogging (or make money online) in all its glory is one of the best, if not the best, ways not to make money online.

Don’t get me wrong! Blogging is a fantastic way to build your credibility online but certainly, not a great way to earn money.

Well, that’s the way it is.

When many fail to earn money online, more than a few “gurus” profit from telling (read: selling) others ‘how to make money online’.

Thing is, there are, of course proven ways to earn money at home.

One of those is writing for HubPages.

Why HubPages?

Just like Squidoo & Info Barrel, HubPages offers anyone the opportunity to make money with no money needed — just talent – yes, no website, no domain, no hosting, literally free of anything.

All you need is the talent to write (and choose what to write) which I’m sure anyone is very much capable of, if one puts his mind into it.

There is no learning curve you couldn’t possibly master. Even the greenest of newbies regardless of age, gender or comfort level CAN earn money at home writing for HubPages.

Google loves HubPages

Sure there are plenty of other free platforms available for your creativity (Hubpages vs Squidoo) but over the last 3 years, HubPages has earned the credibility in the eyes of search engines.

In laymen term, it means your writing can easily be found by those who needs it most and that’s the key to making money online.

The best part is, you don’t have to worry about how you should monetize your writing. Hubpages takes care of everything.

Now if you’re serious about writing for money and not quiet sure how to begin, here’s what I need you to do.

Spend the next 30 minutes or so to read carefully (and grasp as much as possible) what I consider to be the ultimate hub guide on how to make money writing for HubPages.

It covers with clarity everything and anything you really need to know and it comes complete with links to other equally great resources (yes, the real stuffs) for takeaways.

Once you’re done, create your account and start writing your first hub.

To give you a little nudge, there is a ‘30 hubs in 30 days‘ challenge beginning July 24 where you make a personal commitment to write one hub a day for the next 30 day.

Trust me! I’d not have otherwise realized its earning potential if not for the challenge I took back in May and was it worth all the efforts?

Certainly. See how I made money with HubPages.

Bonus tips:

If you don’t have any idea on what to write, here’s what you can possibly do.

  1. Use Squidoo Search to see what’s on Squidoo that have not been written on HubPages yet
  2. Better still, use Wonder Wheel
  3. Refrain from writing about “make money online” or anything similar in nature
  4. And if you’re still in doubt, I’m just an email away.

Sincerely I wish everyone all the best.

Great challenge, Yan! I think I am going to take you up on it. I have written some Hub pages, but mainly just for backlinks to my other sites.

I guess I am earning something from those pages because I got clicks on my Adsense that have no channel, don’t know where the clicks are coming from, but suspect it is hub.

Reading your challenge article, I see you have a channel for your hub clicks in adsense, so I am going to check the guide out and get on top of that asap.

Thanks for the challenge and I am up for it!

Yan July 24, 2009 at 1:19 am

Hey bud,

I don’t think you’ll find how to setup the channel from the guide but wait a minute, I guess I’ve shown you how to do it here.

About the backlinks, that’s pretty much what I used hubpages for initially while the money came as a nice bonus.

Good luck with the challenge!

Thank you for the link, Yan. I missed your reply the other day, but that will definitely work great. I put it into my adsense channels and cannot wait to see if that is where my mystery clicks are coming from.

Glad to be of help! You can also track individual hub if you want, by putting the exact url. That way you’ll know which individual hub brings in the clicks and which needs more SEO attention.

Challenge accepted, Yan! I am down for the 30 days of Hub.

Let’s get it and hopefully make some money!!

I’m sure Master Freddie can do it. No doubt about it!

See ya on the other side!

I have been great. It has been awhile. I backed away from blogging as much as well, but am back for another go at it. Got a different angle this time and looking to have some fun.

You know I will be hanging out at your blog, so we can catch up.

Take care!

Is it really a good method to rely one hundred percent on a third part? If you have your own site you can drive traffic from several different places and earn money in several different ways.

I’m sure this is a great method to earn money but for how long? What if search engines deicide to penalize the whole network with all of your pages? A lot of “what if”, but I like thinking several steps ahead.

Yan July 24, 2009 at 7:41 am

Hey Stefan

You’ve got your point and NO, it is not a good idea to “put all your eggs into one basket”.

If you’re a hubber, you damn sure know that it’s far easier to be on the first page of Google than a new stand-alone site. That means you can earn money (at home) almost immediately. How much? It depends on the niche your hub is.

And when you have built enough portfolio of hubs, this is when you use them to drive traffic to your site and build relevant backlinks (and earn money in several different ways).

Now for those who think several steps ahead, take those hubs (spin them) and publish them on another content sharing platform to spread the risk.

Again if you’re a hubber, you damn sure know how strict they are when it comes to what you write. It’s for this reason alone, Google puts a lot more weight to hubpages than any other platform.

And it is for this reason too that Squidoo has recently changed its guidelines to please Google.

Hope I don’t sound too pitchy, Stefan. I was merely suggesting ONE of those ways to earn money at home.

Thanks, Carla. You deserve it! Your hub is one of the first I bookmark, something I don’t quite often do.

I hadn’t heard of the Wonder Wheel before that is pretty cool. If only they would provide a traffic hint. But of course you can jump to the keyword tool and check it out.

I won’t be able to take the challenge, but I have written some hubs before. I’ll work on adding some more.

Hey Chris

I love wonder wheel just like everyone else. I think it’s one of the best tools to generate keywords (ideas) at will.

Good luck with your hubs.

Yan,

I sort of agree with what you said about blogging, but on the other hand, don’t. What do I mean? Well, blogging is a good way to make money under one condition; you DON’T give up. If you stick with your blog, you can use it to make money later. It is important to first build a community though. The money will always come later. It also depends on how you build your blog — I mean, look at John Chow. Nothing personal, just my two cents! :)

Sorry Yan,

After re-reading, I realized you said blogging about “blogging & making money online”. I thought you said blogging in general. You’re right in a sense, as those two niches have become very saturated.

Reply

Yan July 25, 2009 at 2:39 pm

No worry, Goorooooooo…. ;)

I love blogging (and sharing) here and I also love the fact that I could build passive income through blogging for *search engines*.

Simply because I don’t have the privilege of being another John Chow.

I personally prefer Squidoo for a number of reasons. Can you make more cash with Hubpages?

Reply

ChrisCD July 31, 2009 at 11:42 pm

Joe and Jake, I believe external links in Squidoo are nofollow thus not really helpful for building authority to other sites. However, Hubpages do, as far as I know.

Of course, if you aren’t worried about other sites, than I haven’t done enough with either one to have an opinion one way or the other. Although, I don’t believe accusing Yan of being paid off is fair. He was providing information on another avenue. Regardless of which you prefer, diversification is a good idea.

Some serious comment action going on here. Hubpages is a great tool for freelancers, but I don’t think it will have much time on top now that the yahoo microsoft deal has gone down. I’m sure they will create some similar system for creating content for ads online.

Hub Pages are great for making money online because they rank really well in the search engines. I usually add a news feed to the bottom of my pages so that they are constantly changing and updating without me having to touch them again.

Thanks for the post!

Create your first hub and get a taste of what it is. It doesn’t matter what you write. You can come back again to perfect it later.

You see, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. So is hubbing.

Good luck, my friend!

If I already have a website that I blog on could I rewrite a blog post from my website and submit it to hubpages then link back to my actual website? Or will that hurt me with the search engines?

Reply

Yan August 17, 2009 at 6:21 pm

Jesse,

I can’t think of any reason why a backlink from Hub will hurt your ranking. On the contrary, it will help since a backlink from Hub is considered a trustworthy link in the eye of search engines, Google in particular.

So go ahead. It’s no harm trying.

For those who may be confused about the hubbub over HubPages, this should give you a good general overview:

Afterward, I would suggest doing a few searches on topics that interest you, to give you an idea as to how others are using it — you’ll probably pick up a few ideas of your own.

I agree. Apart from squidoo or weebly, Hubpages is entirely different because we can earn many CPA programs on revenue sharing basis.
Nobody can equal Hubpages business concept in this niche.
