Blogging Topics: Making the Right Choice

by Yan

This article is submitted automatically by Article Marketing Automation – a novel way of niche article submission. I’m yet to gauge the effectiveness of this marketing tool but I’ll write a review of it soon. Let me know what you think about it.

You have several different ideas for possible blogging topics. But how do you choose the right one?

When you are first starting your monetized blog, a lot of the decisions you make early on can determine how successful it will be. Choosing the right platform is pretty important. So is choosing a good title. Even choosing which affiliate products you will promote can make a huge difference.

But it all starts with your topic. It’s easier to maker profits with some blogging topics than with others. My win a mercedes or empowerism blog are quite profitable but some topics will be extremely difficult to make money with, especially for a new blogger.

Here are some tips on choosing blogging topics.

Choose a Profitable Niche

One of the big draws of running a monetized blog is that you can make money while writing about things that really interest you.
But maybe you really love tadpoles, so you have decided to start a blog all about them. Keeping a tadpole blog for fun might be a great experience.

But, if you want to make money blogging, you might find that tadpoles aren’t a very profitable topic.

Actually, experienced bloggers might say it’s possible to make money in any niche. But, when you are just starting out, make things easier on yourself and choose a niche that will appeal to more people. For example, instead of focusing on tadpoles, make your blog about caring for pet fish in general. That way, you can still write about tadpoles, but you will increase your blog’s money making potential.

How Do You Find a Profitable Niche?

So, how do you choose a profitable niche?

You look at the stuff people are buying. If people are spending money on products in a certain category, then niches related to that category will probably be profitable.
How many infomercials do you see related to dieting and losing weight? Quite a few. The dieting and weight loss industries are big money makers.

What books are on the nonfiction bestseller lists? What are those books about? If people are buying books about these topics, then they could make profitable niches for your blog.

It is possible to make money blogging. But choosing the right blogging topics can make all the difference in how much money you make, and how fast you make it.

This article submission redirects my site url to this particular post slug… I’m yet to find out what’s the issue…

Any idea?

Well to be honest I don’t get it. This system is going to send your article to other sites as well, so you get links or what?
And isn’t that content duplication?

Please explain it, I don’t understand sorry.

I haven’t publish any article yet but there is a rewriter or a spinner that supposedly rewrite the article up to 10 times. So each article is different from the last.

Anyway, the publisher has all the rights to rewrite the article. The only requirement is keep the links intact.

O-kay, now you confused me even more :D

Could you please just explain what happens with a post after you submit it?

To be honest, I’m a little skeptic. If they could show a site that made a fortune with this method, I’ll be more convinced. And for 47$? I don’t know…

And I’m still concerned about that duplicate content thing, Google doesn’t like that.

Jani, I’m yet to publish any article for submission so I can’t comment much on it. I’m using it to publish fresh contents on this blog.

Everything I do here is just an experiment of various marketing strategies so I’m still awaiting to see how it could benefit me.

I understand your concern on the duplicate content issue and if you are skeptical about it, probably you can give it a pass.

Ok, I really tried to read and understand their FAQ (it sucks).

My impressions is that it is really complex and roundabout way to buy links.

I’m actually seeing the potential benefit of one-way link distribution using the service, though I’m yet to submit any article to the system.

Yan- I’ve been wondering what’s in it for the article writer, and now I know (the links). If most of the posts are like this, then that’s not a bad investment.

Jani- I think the idea is to use these posts as filler, rather than as the entire source of content. Re-writing keeps the individual article from getting dinged as duplicate, but duplication shouldn’t be an issue as it’s only that article that gets marked duplicate rather than the whole site (assuming that you also post original articles/posts).

I’m still using the free service and I can only see the effect of one-way link distribution when I have the chance to spin one article across different blogs.

Not a bad way of link building if you ask me..

Anyway, thanks for the visit and looking forward to seeing more of you here.

just to let you know that commentluv 2.1.5 is out and should resolve all issues.

it’s available at the wordpress codex
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/commentluv/

or it should be showing as an update available in your dashboard.

still time to get it before the commentluv beta contest finishes!

I’d really like to find a super high quality article spinner, that allows you to input your keyword, so you can control the density of the rewrites etc..

Maybe I’ll just have the software developed and solve my needs that way!

Yan September 26, 2008 at 4:16 pm

I’m using it right now to spin fresh articled on the other blog of mine and rewrite it with my own keywords. How’s that for updating a new blog with minimal work?

The jury is still out on this one anyway but I’m loving it already. Besides, at no cost what have we got to lose?

Rajesh September 26, 2008 at 1:36 pm

Honestly I don’t believe in these…when i can’t write a good article then i don’t want to blog…Also I am not sure how will be the quality of these articles…Are they machine generated?

Anyway, good luck with it…

Personally I feel that the pros outweigh the cons if you are on the publishing end and not on the receiving one.

I’m planning to write an article and submit it to the system to see how it will increase my backlinks.

Hi Yan,
have you seen Splork’s http://lostballinhighweeds.com/ he has a good write up there about Article Marketing Automation. Seems to do him pretty well.

I actually came in here today to say that I don’t think tadpoles are actually fish, lol! but close enough… :)

And the other thing – weight loss blogs can be profitable (adsense works well on them usually), but they often take a long time to get indexed and out of the sandbox, unless you send them very good backlinks (and don’t have them on blogger…) Seems big G thinks they might be spam….

Yan September 26, 2008 at 6:38 pm

Hey Zania

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll catch up with that article.

A while ago I wrote a review on PeoCash Pack and was surprised to see how competitive weight loss niche is and I came to a conclusion that there is good money to be made in this super competitive niche.

I’ve not had the time to actually promote the pack….grrh, there are just too many things for too little time.

Well if you look at what people are buying what do they have a need for. Sure weight loss is everywhere. Anything that can help people save money is always a good ideal. Especially if you can help people save money using a service they are already paying for.

The first decision any blogger should make before attempting to blog is find something that you thoroughly enjoy and write about that. It will make it easier for you to write and more enjoyable for your readers to read.

Pretty interesting, hmm. IMO the post is a tad short (that is, I feel that it’s lacking some other details), nevertheless it’s still good. ;)

Reply

Yan September 27, 2008 at 1:29 pm

Yeah, most of the articles it spins my way (the other blog) is pretty short. I did not rewrite it when I’m supposed to as I was just trying it out.

Reply

Sire September 27, 2008 at 12:18 pm

I’m not sure if you use this feature that you are actually displaying original content. I did a quick search and found an exact duplicate, and according to that blog it was written by a guest blogger.

I think I will stick to writing my own articles.

Reply

Yan September 27, 2008 at 1:36 pm

There will be duplicated ones everywhere if both the publisher and the blog owner do not rewrite the article. In my case, I didn’t… What you are seeing now is the exact copy of what I received.

The whole system IMO is workable if we take the time to make it unique i.e. putting our keywords, internal linking, etc.

Well, I’m not going to solely rely on this to run my blog as it’s suicidal but I wouldn’t mind receiving fresh ideas once in a while.

Hi Yan,

I just want to say that this post is great. It took me 1 year of failure to learn this lesson. I have many blogs before my current blog. All of them failed because I’ve chosen the wrong topic. I can’t believe that you share this one for free!

Anyway, thanks for coming to my blog and gave a comment. I just published an article about the Black Hat SEO techniques I know. Hope this is what you’re looking for.

Hi Alex

This article wasn’t written or shared by me but still I agree on your point – we just need to choose the right topic that add value to our readers. That’s the core principal.

I’ll be there later today and thanks for the heads up. You have a great blog, Alex and it’s been nice knowing you.

The choice of a topic is definitely a crucial one especially if you’re starting out. Of course it is good to blog on a topic you’re love and interested in but as you mentioned, it’s pertinent to note that there are many talented and gifted people out there who are doing what they love and passionate about but are dead broke!

So choosing a profitable topic is IMPORTANT! You can check out one of my post on this: http://tinyurl.com/4kyort

Chadrack September 27, 2008 at 9:52 pm

You got the whole damn truth right there. Some gurus may tell you to focus on what you love in order to make money online. But come to think of it, what about a thousand artist and other gifted persons out there doing what they love and are passionate about yet end up broke?

Well, just blogging about a topic you love and passionate about does not bring the money. It’s a combination of your passion and the profitability of the topic that brings the success you desire.

….doing what they love and are passionate about yet end up broke…

That’s the reality of life and it sucks sometimes. I guess passion alone is not enough. We need a little work of marketing to convert real passion into butter and bread and that’s what is lacking in most artists.

Anyway, often their real work of arts will only becomes valuable (or priceless in some instances) when they are no longer around and again that’s the reality.

It’s a combination of your passion and the profitability of the topic that brings the success you desire.

Well said and it’s absolutely true.

I think that sometimes it’s also the writing technique a blogger uses as this seems to get them a good following which in return will probably lead to a lot of referrals etc.
